Blades restaurant 94 Lower Richmond Rd London, SW15 1LL Tel: 020 8789 0869 For website click here |
Blades is an unpretentious Italian restaurant in London, which is pretty much like what you would expect see in small restaurant in Northern Italy. The menu is only a couple of pages long, complemented by the “specials” on the blackboard, and although they don’t seem to change very often, the selection is good The staff, and the owner, are very good with kids, and are happy to prepare something a bit off the menu if your kids are a bit particular about what they eat. Blades carries a good selection of wines, and is reasonably priced for London, but I would call it good value for money, instead of inexpensive. The place is small, so it is a good idea to make a reservation if you are planning to have dinner on a Friday or Saturday, but on other days you can probably just walk in. |
Emile's 96 Felsham Road London, SW15 1DQ Tel: 020 8789 3323 For website click here |
Traditional French cuisine. Emile’s is a great little place is a bit hidden on the back streets of Putney. That said, walking by virtually any evening and the place is busy for a reason! Solid menu, great service. |
Enoteca Turi 28 Putney High St London SW15 1SQ Tel: 020 87854449 For website click here |
Enoteca Turi is a fantastic restaurant. The wine list is superb, the atmosphere lovely, and the food is brilliant. The service has always been great. |
Nuovi Sapori 295 New Kings Rd London SW6 4RE Tel: 020 7736 3363 For website click here |
Another Italian whose food is always made from the freshest ingredients. A bit more up market at £30-40 a head including wine - but very good value for what you get. |
Phoenix Bar & Grill 162-164 Lower Richmond Road SW15 1LY Tel: 020 8780 3131 For website click here |
Although situated in a part of Putney that has yet to be glamorised, the same cannot be said of the romantic, weatherproof terrace & spacious interior dining rooms of this quality local. An interesting modern art collection adds focus to the design, but it’s the modern, Anglo-Italian food that really makes this place worth a visit. There’s a set menu available most of the time, & the service is delightful. |
Barnes Restaurants | |
Sonny's 94 Church Rd London SW13 0DQ Tel: 020 87480393 For website click here |
The Barnes faithful have kept Sonny’s thriving for almost a quarter of a century. It’s part of a trio of neighbourhood restaurants run by Rebecca Mascarenhas, including the Phoenix and 11 Abingdon Road . The white-painted back room with its glass-brick wall is more relaxed than the brighter front area, though the low ceiling means it can be noisy. The eclectic artworks should provide a talking point if conversation flags. There’s much to like: staff are efficient and amenable, the wine list is pleasing, the set menus are nicely priced. |
Riva 169 Church Rd London, SW13 9HR Tel: 020 87480434 For website click here |
The eponymous Italian owner manages the polite service in this unassuming restaurant. Rustic and robust cooking uses some of Italy’s finest produce. Extensive all-Italian wine list. |
Annie's 36 - 38 White Hart Lane London, SW13 0PZ Tel: 020 8878 2020 For website click here |
Annie’s is a little find in Mortlake! It is classed as a pub, but it is more restauranty for sure. The interior is beautifully decorated muted colours, warm and cosy, with candles burning and gilt-edged mirrors handing on the walls. Bistro menu cooked well. |
The Depot Tideway Yard 125 Mortlake High St, London, SW14 8SN Tel: 020 88789462 For website click here |
The depot has breath-taking river views and is perched on the edge of the Thames near Barnes Bridge, in deep Boat Race country. Idyllic and cool in summer, cosy and warm in winter. |

Wonderful middle eastern brasserie, fresh and great for snacks and lunch. |
The Light House 75-77 Ridgeway SW19 4ST Tel: 020 8944 6338 For website click here |
Presentation is everything at The Light House - each dish arrives looking as if genuine care has been taken in its preparation. The tasting does not disappoint. Purveyors of 'eclectic' cuisine often manage to combine flavours, which are simply unacceptable to the palate, however they are presented. Here, things are entirely different with each dish purveying a myriad of well matched ingredients. |
